Team spirit is running high in Dabang Delhi camp as they gear up for the third edition of Pro Kabbaddi League that starts from January 30 at Visakhapatnam. “This time, we aim to become champions,” says defender Amit Chillar. Dabang Delhi stood at the bottom of the table last year, just above Puneri Paltan. But this time around, they look to make amends and be right at the top.
“Last year, few of our main players got injured and could not play the whole tournament. The first four-five matches we played when the core group was there, we were in top four,” said Amit. “But kabaddi is such a sport that you can meet with a lot of injuries and if it happens, the combination breaks. Without combination, you can not play kabbadi.”
Amit, who plays as defender left-corner, is all praise for defender right-corner Ravinder Pahal. “He is one of the best defenders currently. I have learnt a lot from him. And I play along side him. Without defenders, a team can not win.”
Amit credited Pro Kabaddi League for making the sport exciting and entertaining. “Earlier, if you get one point, you can play it safe. It was not that fast. But after Pro Kabbadi League happened, you have to play quite fast. If you lead by 10 or 15 points, even that is not enough… There was importance of 1 point earlier. But now, even if you get 15 points lead at half time, you’ve to know that you’ve to start from scratch. You have to start from 0.”
